Losing Weight Who is Your Hero

Lose Weight – Who is Your Hero?

Everyone has a hero at some point in his or her life.  A hero is defined as a person who is admired because of his or her achievements.

I have had several heroes in my life and the common thread in all of this “hero envy” has been a desire to be like them.  Heroes have a way of influencing us and making us want to be like them.  That is not a bad thing, if the influence is good and it helps us be better in some way, either personally or professionally.  Heroes need to change from time to time just to keep up with changes in our lives.

Heroes have the ability to affect our relationships, help define our self-esteem, and influence our quality of life as much as our physical appearance does.  A hero can be a wonderful thing to have if it helps us achieve our goals. If you are trying to lose weight, who is your hero?

Recently I read some weight loss success stories and it occurred to me that these successful people all had several things in common:

1.  In almost every instance, being overweight was a result of poor diet and lack of exercise.

2.  Someone, a hero if you will, gave them guidance, encouragement and motivation to successful weight loss.  In some cases, it was a single individual and in others, it was a group of people who assumed the role of hero.

3.  Every success followed a life-style changing program that included diet and exercise.

4.  Nothing happened overnight.  There were no quick weight loss gimmicks or fancy equipment, just reasonable diets, hard work, sweat and commitment.

Over the years, I have had more than one hero.  My fitness heroes include people like Jillian Michaels, Denise Austin and Mike Geary.  These people are my fitness heroes because they know what it is like to have weight and fitness problems.  They went from overweight to fit and used their success to build systems that help other people.  Along the way, they learned how to make a good living doing what they love to do.

Weight loss heroes could also include programs such as Jenny Craig, Weight watchers or Nutri-system.  These are typically diet programs that encourage exercise to maintain an ideal weight.  Look closely at the commercials and you should notice that most of the models have bodies that cannot be gotten from diet alone. I have several friends that have successfully lost weight by following their diet programs.  Those that added exercise were more successful and lost weight faster than those that did not exercise.

Heroes are a natural part of life.  We all know of people that are where we want to be.  And, having a hero is an essential part of a successful weight loss program.  We need to have some help and show us the way.

It really does not matter where you find your weight loss hero as long as you get help with a reasonable diet and exercise program and motivation to succeed.  The important thing is to find your hero, make a plan and stay with it until you achieve the image you want.?
